Nevertheless, I must state my case. The apple beer in question is produced by Canada’s most famous brewery, the aforementioned “Unibroue”. Until that point I had enjoyed many of there offerings (I highly recommend “La Fin Du Monde” and “Trois Pistoles”, so I ordered the Ephemere without thinking twice. Now the stink of it is, Devon, aka fellow beer snob, aka my best man, KNEW this beer was especially feminine but he failed to warn me. So you can imagine my surprise when a glowing fairy holding a giant green apple was staring me in the face. Devon did make up for it by getting me another beer but my brother in law reminds me daily of my fruity beer selection. So beware fellow beer lovers, the fruit + beer = sales equation infiltrates even the finest breweries. On a side note, the first beer I got was not the regular La Chouffe, (which i also love). It was the “Chouffe Houblon”. Labeled as a “Double, Tripel, IPA,” this beer embodies my favorite things about belgian tripels (that yeasty, spicy, sweet flavor) and manages to incorporate the wonderful bitterness found in I.P.A.’s. It’s a rather scizophrenic experience, and one I partake in whenever possible.
