We love to gather old friends and new to our table. We love to hear their experiences and their stories. We know many have the same passion. Some of these friends live all over the country so, sometimes; it makes it a little hard to get together in real life. We have come up with a project to share stories, recipes and time around our “virtual” table together. The Traveling Cookbook is a way to bring the experience from each of our tables to each other.
Here’s how it works. We choose a cookbook that is sent from one blogger to the next. Each blogger will then prepare 2-3 recipes of their choosing out of the cookbook. Throughout the preparing, serving and sharing process, they will “scrapbook” in the cookbook. They will share thoughts, a funny thing that happened, a change they made in the recipe, a quote, a sketch, a photo, or whatever fun expression they come up with to share their experience with others. Maybe they will share the meal, the memory or about the people that gathered around their table. When they finish, they will send it on to the next blogger of their choosing and on the cookbook will travel.
You will be able to follow The Traveling Cookbook’s journey here, at our table, LoveFeast Table. We will chronicle who has the cookbook and where the cookbook is traveling next. The bloggers who received it will share their stories from the cookbook here. It’s a bit serendipitous. We don’t have the bloggers “pre-chosen”. Each blogger that receives The Traveling Cookbook will get to decide whom to send it to next.
Once the book is filled, it will arrive back at our table. Our hope is at the end, the cookbook will be it’s own new piece of art. It will encompass not only the original recipes and the voice of the original author, but it will also echo with the cooks that opened their kitchens and their hearts and shared their experiences from their own tables.
What will we do with this beautiful work once it is finished? We want to then auction this one-of-a-kind, documented–art-cookbook to raise money for a successful non-profit we have chosen called, Feed My Starving Children*. Along with the project of The Traveling Cookbook we will also have a donation badge available. This badge and the proceeds from The Traveling Cookbook will all be contributed and earmarked towards our commitment to raise $24,000 to sponsor
LoveFeast Table’s MobilePackTM Unit that will make 100,000 meals for starving children around the world.
We thought the perfect cookbook to kick-start this project would be, The Pioneer Woman Cooks, by Ree Drummond. Ree does an amazing job of virtually gathering friends to her table. And, we are pleased to say she has given her blessing to this project as well!
