Eclectic Holiday Decorating Tips

Holiday decorating for us is usually all about pulling bits and pieces to create a unique look. For us, we don’t decorate with a “from the box” look. We like each year to be unique and eclectic. We will pull items from different seasons, like these velvet, Plush Pumpkins. We know they are pumpkins, but the fact they are made with a lush velvet, makes them a great addition to any festive holiday display.

One of the things we try and keep in mind when decorating is using items with different textures and made from different types of material. We use feather trees, glass balls, metal santas, tinsel stars, wooden candle sticks, vintage Christmas ornaments, living plants, satin ribbons, moss, glittered pictures and of course Christmas lights.

When arranging a table top or a mantel, we make sure there are items that pass the “makes me happy” test. You know those items…the ones that bring a smile to your face or hold a special memory. We also try and add varying heights and textures to each vignette as well as layering from front to back for visual interest.

Sometimes we have to stand back and edit what we created, making sure there is balance. But, the beauty of the holidays, is usually, you can get away with more flourish and fancy then with other seasons.

Eclectic Holiday Decorating Tips:

*Use items with different textures.

*Use items made with different materials.

*Have a “makes me happy” piece in a display.

*Place items of varying heights in a display.

*Layer items for more interest.

*Don’t be afraid to use out of season items to add interest.

*After creating a display, stand back and check for balance.

Have a wonderful and festive holiday!

From our table to yours,

Chris Ann & Kristin
