Interview With Author Dani Pettrey

Soon after I met Dani Pettrey, I was in a room full of women and she announced that she had just received a 3 book deal with Bethany House Publishers. I was thrilled for her.  That was a year ago and I’ve gotten to know Dani pretty well since that time.  I have to say, I am even more thrilled for her! There is something so inspiring about knowing someone who had a dream, worked hard and persistently to see it become a reality.
Dani is an amazing woman who juggles her life as a homeschool mom, caretaker to her own mom, author, wife and friend, with grace and strength.
I asked Dani a few questions, earlier today, so you could get to know her a little bit as well.

What inspired you to begin writing?

“I have always loved writing and the power of story. A number of years back, after a serious illness, God stirred the desire to write back in my heart and I’ve been writing ever since.”

For those who desire to get a book published, what are your three top tips?

“Read a lot. Write a lot. Find other writers. For example, I am a member of American Christian Fiction Writers and Romance Writers of America. Both organizations have been a fabulous help to me through resources, instruction in craft, marketing and publishing in general.”

Your first book Submerged is coming out this spring, when you found out your book pitch was accepted, what was the first thing you did?

“I was ecstatic when I received the news I’d been offered a contract. I called all my friends and family and shared the wonderful news with them. I have been very blessed to have a lot of support and encouragement over the years.”

What’s your favorite writing environment? Do you have a favorite place or space?

“My office is the sunroom off our kitchen. I usually curl up on the couch with my black Lab and a cup of coffee and get lost in the story.”

Your books are all adventure based, what adventures are on your bucket list?

“Great question…Surfing is next on my list.”
We just wrapped up a LIVE Chat with Dani tonight at International Delight Community. You can read other tips and tricks Dani shared HERE.
And just to give you a little taster of her book….

A sabotaged flight. Two murdered divers. A single clue—a grainy image of sunken treasure.

Dive Rescue Captain Cole McKenna has never worked a case like this, but who he’s working with may prove more dangerous than the assignment. It’s been a lifetime since Bailey mangled his heart. Now she’s back in town and he needs her expertise to track down the illusive treasure.

Professor of Russian Studies Bailey Craig vowed never to set foot in Yancey again, but when her beloved aunt dies, she has no choice. Her plan of attack is simple: return for Agnes’s funeral, get the family business ready for a quick sale, and then put Yancey and all the heartbreaking memories wrapped up in it behind her for good.

Cole walking through her door, asking for her help on a murder investigation, wasn’t part of her plan, neither are the feelings he’s resurrecting—feelings best left dead.

Bailey agrees to help for the sake of the victims, and travels with Cole across Alaska’s rugged terrain and deep beneath is coastal waters. As the case escalates, so do their feelings for one another. Unfortunately, not everyone is willing to let go of the past and just when Bailey thinks she can’t take it any longer, the case shifts in a new and extremely personal direction, fastening her in for its duration.

Racing against the clock and a rising body count, Cole and Bailey fight to find the treasure and uncover the hidden history at the root of it all. But will they be too late?
