Fancy Friday~Fall Field Trip

Fall is the perfect time of year to schedule day trips with your family.  I sit down at the beginning of the school year and map out a trip every few weeks that I think will interest my kids of all ages.  After all, I have two teenagers, a middle schooler, a 5th grader and a 4 year old.  This year we have already packed in a few day trips.  I homeschool my younger three and we are studying early American history, so I planned a few trips to kick off the school year with real life learning.  The first was to a historic Quaker … [Read more...]

Happy Birthday Chris Ann!!!

The message in this cookie reads: "May your day start with a homemade cappuccino (and not a venti from Starbucks) May this day be full of sweet treats made (and all dishes cleaned up and put away) by your husband or kids, and most importantly, may you fill bags and bags of shredded documents as you organize and purge this weekend!"   Chris Ann~I wish you could be in NYC this weekend, living it up with your man, but I know that the deepest desire of your heart (to get full-on organization) will be … [Read more...]

Door Decor Happy Greetings

Let us be grateful to people who make us happy, they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom ~ Marcel Proust.           Welcome Friends & Fall!  My daughter and her best friend decided to be part of my Door Decor photo shoot and "acted out" this greeting.  Truth is they had spent hours together already.  I love the shining, happy smile on my daughters face pretend-greeting her bff.  While the greeting might be "acted" I know the meaning is true.  Nothing like a best … [Read more...]

Fancy Friday Pinterest Board

We are going to start by me asking Kristin, what should we be asking? Chris Ann is pouring herself a glass of wine, I’m sitting on the phone and listening to her struggle to open the bottle.  I remember when I taught her in Italy how to open a bottle..which was great, thanks for ruining my record of having other people do the dirty work for me.  let’s see if she can do it. ….ah done.  and it’s the good bottle left in the house...great...I poured my glass from the box...waiting....it sounds open, waiting for first sip. I think … [Read more...]

Beauty Explored

This past weekend, I attended a conference and one of the breakout sessions was titled Beautifying Through Art.  Two of my favorite topics, beauty and art.  The facilitator introduced herself then began to share attributes of beauty. "Beauty is unpossesive~we are drawn to beauty in a non-selfish way."  There is no ulterior motive for enjoying beauty, other than to purely enjoy it. "Beauty is unselving~it takes us out of ourselves."  We forget about "me" and get lost in the mesmerizing effect of beauty. "Beauty … [Read more...]

Roasted Peach~Vanilla, Blueberry Salad Recipe

If summer could be summed up in a salad, it would be called Roasted Peach~Vanilla, Blueberry Salad...with pecans and crumbled Gorgonzola. Have you ever had a certain dish that when you first took a bite, time stood still?  This salad and I have a romance that started back at our coffee shop days.  I clearly remember the day.  It was late summer and I was sitting on the second floor of Jahva House with two of my high school friends.  We hadn't seen each other in about a year and we were meeting for lunch to catch up.  Devon … [Read more...]

Perception is Reality

My dad picked up a saying after his many years of working in marketing, "Perception is reality." I've been marinating on this adage all week. Just the other night, my 14 year old and I were standing in line at the pharmacy. An older woman fell into line behind us and said, "You...you two, brother and sister?" I don't have to tell you how that made my day. My son knew immediately he'd never hear the end of that. Was it what I was wearing? My lack of makeup? My smile? Was it who I was standing next to, that put me in a "younger" … [Read more...]
