This summer we won't be taking a vacation. I know, I know, sad. But, not really. You see, I'm still living off of last year's Killer Road Trip! Have you ever taken one of those vacations where you decided to pack it all in?! That's what we did! The day we were leaving and packing up the van, Devon unplugged our Breville Espresso Machine and the grinder. I said, "What are you doing? Where is that going?" He responded, "With us. On the road." You see, we have made many trips across country. The worst part about those … [Read more...]

Where It All Started…Golden West Cafe
It was about a year ago. Chris Ann was in Baltimore for a visit. She had just come out of a dreary Minnesota winter. I planned a day of "art-inspiration-creativity-fun stops and shops". We went to ArHaus and were quickly inspired by the vignettes and even had a great conversation with the artist/installer there. I saw Chris Ann take a deep, refreshing breath and she even smiled. We then went to Clipper Mill to scope out the artists and to peek in Woodberry Kitchen. We walked around and watched glass artists, iron artists … [Read more...]
Pretend-za at Potenza Restaurant Review
Tuesday night we drove into Washington, DC., for dinner at Potenza. First, let us say that we had a great time! We always have a great time together whether we are lost in Rome, swinging on the front porch in Baltimore or dining on the deck in Minneapolis. However, our dinner at Potenza last night was bumpy like a dirt road in Tuscany. Thankfully, the wine was flowing and good, and it didn't really matter what we were eating, because we enjoyed being together! Now, on to an honest review of this newish restaurant. They … [Read more...]
Shrimp and Pasta To Curb Your Chaos
As I have said before, I can be a cooking challenged food blogger, known for being desperate for dinner and “Avoiding Supper”. I have been even know to chuck meat. It seems if I get one part done, the shopping, or the menu planning, I can’t get the other part done, the cooking.Time, you see, is not on my side.I have four kids, and a full time van chauffeuring job that keeps me driving from 9am-4pm with an hour and a half window to plan, shop, cook, and eat. It’s not that I don’t try.To ease my load a CSA from Jackson Hollow … [Read more...]
Clementine Won My Heart
As promised, we gave Clementine another chance. It was a celebration night! My husband and I were celebrating our 15th anniversary. I wanted to go to Clementine. It's a local joint, in my hood and I have continued to hear good things. I noticed a little bit of expansion happening...and wanted to get a closer look. As we walked by, I noticed the vintage stove in the window. Oh my! It's screaming for vintage or handmade wallpaper behind it...with a big bold pattern! (You see, I'm an artist and can't help but take in the … [Read more...]
LoveFeast at Marakkesh
We wrapped up our fun week with a final dinner at Marakkesh, in Washington D.C. If you've never been to Marakkesh, I highly recommend a visit! We arrived and got out of the suburban (which has officially died...so really this was it's last restaurant adventure...so long old friend) and walked up to a big wooden door. We had to knock to be allowed in. We stepped over the threshold and were warmly greeted by numerous hosts and hostesses. We were escorted to the back dining room. We crossed a dance floor and joined our … [Read more...]
Apple Suprise at Ale Mary’s
The same night I went out with the ladies, my husband took the boys out for their bachelor party night. His plan was to take the boys to a local pub that has a decent Belgium beer list, then come back to the house for cigars and fire pit time! They headed down to Ale Mary's in Fells Point, Baltimore. In his words: "Two of us got burgers. The burgers were great! I had to wipe the drool off of Ryan and Corey's mouths. The first round of drinks were really good. Bachelor boy, Marc got the La Chouffe, it was spot on! … [Read more...]
A Little Mischief at Sei
Our dinner reservation was for 10:30. I slammed an extra espresso at 8 and prepared myself mentally to tackle the late night challenge! I was headed out to Brielle's bachelorette party with a bunch of 20 year olds. I was honored that they wanted me, 30 something, mom of 5 to tag along. But, I have to admit, I had to gear myself up for a late night...it had been a while. We headed out to DC to meet the rest of the party at their hotel...a gorgeous new W hotel, Aloft, set beside the Potomac River at the National Harbor. The … [Read more...]
Iolanthe, Mussels and Belgium beer
My beautiful cousin Maria is a trained opera singer. Of course, I knew right away, from the moment we use to sing Miss Mary Mack in our sleeping bags at night, she would one day be a star! A few weeks ago, my husband and I had the privilege of seeing her perform in Washington DC with the Savoyards. She played Iolanthe. It was a light opera...entertaining and funny! Afterwords, we invited Maria and her husband to go get a bite to eat with us. (We had already done our research and knew where we were headed.) We went to … [Read more...]
Little Bit of Clementine
My husband and I had a date!! Woo who!! I have to admit, it's been a while. We wrapped up our night at a new little restaurant in Hamilton (Baltimore, MD). It's called Clementines. Since we had not made dinner reservations and the kitchen was closing, we begged our way in for a cup of coffee and dessert. Since Clementines has opened, it has been busy. I have hear wonderful things about the food, and mixed reviews on the service. Now, because Devon and I have a combined 30+ years in the food industry, when we go to a … [Read more...]
