Thanksgiving 2012 Menu

Every time we share a meal together, Chris Ann and I write the menu on our chalkboards. She writes hers on the chalkboard I gave her before our family left the country. It use to hang over the counter at our coffee shop, Jahva House. I love that it hangs in her house. I love that a piece that represented an important era in our friendship journey, falls on her eyes every day. It hangs in the center of her home where her kids sometimes put up their own messages. But, the culture of writing a menu on the chalkboard was one … [Read more...]

Style For Thanksgiving

Today we're featuring a Thanksgiving style post by our friend and practical fashionista Megan Cobb of FriedOkra. Thanksgiving evokes such a feeling of cozy togetherness, doesn't it? It's also the holiday that just seems to demand a nod to our rustic history. To capture both rustic and cozy, with a touch of celebratory elegance, I've created a look here that combines a bold but warm and comfy pieced Fair Isle sweater (Anthropologie) with a simple, classic camel wool pencil skirt (J. Crew) and added touches of color and … [Read more...]

Artistic Napkin Flowers

I spent years folding stacks and stacks of napkins when working in the restaurant business. I can roll silverware blindfolded, create napkin tents with clean crisp lines and make these napkin flowers as if they were fabric origami. They are my favorite to make and to use on the table. They are pretty easy once you get the hang of it. 1. Take a square napkin, starting with the underside, fold all four corners into the center. 2. Fold all the four corners into the center again. 3. Carefully slide your … [Read more...]

Creating a Thanksgiving Table Centerpiece

Gathering at the table for Thanksgiving, is one of our favorite times of year. Not only do our husbands get to shine (in the kitchen...'cause truth be told, they do most of the cooking) but we get to TABLESCAPE! What is "tablescaping" you ask? It's decorating your table just like you would your room, using color, patterns, textures, fabrics and dishes. We love to brainstorm ideas, colors, themes and templates. Each year we try to switch it up so our guests are surprised and feel valued, knowing we took the time to create a … [Read more...]

One Day 2012 ~ LoveFeast

One of our best bloggy #IRL friends, Laura ~ The Hollywood Housewife is hosting a blog post link up called One Day 2012.  Her idea is to have you follow your life in pictures through one typical day as a way of documenting life.  She chose a day this week Wednesday, November 15th with the aim to share a typical day.  I took a little creative license on this project.  Here is my take on One Day  ~ in LoveFeast Land. Here is a little know fact.  On mornings when Kristin and I post our coffee and then share it on Instagram we … [Read more...]

Pavlova in Ireland

How does Pavlova find itself on the table of an Irish meal? Well, if you're my friend Jenn, whose husband moved to Ireland when he was a little boy, from New Zealand, it's totally normal. While we were in Ireland, we shared a number of amazing meals. We had fresh mussels and fish curry, roasted chicken with spuds in jackets, pasties, fish and chips, cinnamon twists and a roasted lamb dinner that made me fall in love with my husband all over again! Our hostess Jenn, began cracking eggs and separating them. … [Read more...]

When Your Dress Inspires Your Table

I had been traveling the prior two weeks. I was exhausted. So for a couple of days, I had a hard time venturing out of my yoga pants. But, I can only handle that type of dress for a few days. You see, being a home-school mom, I make it a point to get up, get dressed and put make up on, even if my day keeps me home bound. A good friend of ours, Abby Leigh, started a link up on Wednesdays, "Dress for the Day You Want to Have." I'm a firm believer in taking the time to be "dressed"...to put on a bit of make up...do you hair, even … [Read more...]

Decorating With Pillows

This is my latest pillow purchase.  It's a festive fall-ish whimsical burst of color right off my front door.  (Pier One)  It's sits on my salvaged chair and gather my guests coats and purses.   I love how this pillow complements the burlap coffee sack cushion.  It's making my happy right now, but in a couple of weeks it will be switched out for something that suites the festive coming season.  And, that is the power of the pillow - you can change the mood of a room with one quick switch. The power of decorating with pillows … [Read more...]

Meet Kristin’s Sister~Designer of Boho Beach Jewelry

Meet my younger sister, Cana Praise Morningstar! (Yes, that's her real name.) Pull up a chair to the table and get to know one of my favorite people in the world. Cana was born when I was 7. And as far as sisters go, she rocked my world. From the very beginning she emanated creativity and spunk. Early on she surrounded herself with collections of things...baba's (stuffed animals), old inhalers and anything sparkly. She would create miniature models of things like The Wheel of Fortune, out of toothpicks and entire mini feasts … [Read more...]
