It’s Fancy Friday and Inspiration is in the air!!  I love this table from Ruffled.  If this was my table or

this was my table (from Making It Lovely)-  I would probably eating something lovely like this-

from Canelle et Vanille’s table.  I would have loved to be seated at this table-

from Joy The Baker’s party gals’ On the Lamb.

Belissimo

Unfortunately, I missed sitting at this table, for Kristin’s party.

Come on in!

You know you want to open the door and take a peek inside!

Kristin’s (very patient) mom, wood-burned her entire front door!

This is in Kristin’s mom’s study…she free hand painted it.

Look around at some of our fancy walls!

This is a close-up of Chris Ann’s bedroom wall.  Her bedroom is painted in Ralph Lauren’s Candlelight finish called Tea and Sweets.  Who can resist Tea and Sweets?  It has the softest luminescence yet is still modern.

Kristin completed this during Snowapocolypse in B’More.

This is Chris Ann’s pink dining room! (Sherwin-Williams Memorable Rose).  Suburbia Man never ever questioned painting a color that looked like pepto-bismol in the dining room.

We just have to show this again, because it’s totally fancy and we love it…so much we have wallpaper envy.

Fancy Friday Hollywood Style
Posted by ChrisAnn in Fancy Friday on Feb 19th, 2010 | Comment Bubble  10 Comments »
FF-BadgeAs you know every Friday we post about what inspires us.  We started  Fancy Friday because we wanted a place to express and rejuvenate our artistic senses.  We get inspired from colors, textures, experiences, adventure, food, spices, and travel.   We also get inspired by hearing about what inspires others.  Today’s first guest blogger for a Fancy Friday is Laura, from the Hollywood Housewife blog.  After chatting with her in our virtual world of blogging and Twitter, we finally caught up with her in the real world at Blissdom, the blogging conference Chris Ann recently attended.  We know you will enjoy what she has to share about what’s “fancy” in her Hollywood home.

I am drawn to fancy. I’ve been chasing the glitter since I was a little girl. This led me from a small town in Oklahoma to the sparkly lights of Los Angeles, and I’ve never looked back. (That’s not true. I look back all the time. But Los Angeles does achieve all levels of Fancy.) Naturally, I appreciate high drama in a home. I’ve filled our 1920’s abode in the Hollywood hills with things that make me smile. Things that are a little unexpected. Like the red flocked wallpaper in the bathroom off the kitchen. I was inspired by the wallpaper at a Mexican food restaurant and I couldn’t get it out of my head. So I found something similar at Walnut Wallpaper.

My husband travels a lot for work, and he’s really great at bringing home things from each country.  He picked out these panels in Indonesia and we had them made into our master bedroom doors.  The craftsman did an excellent job of “weathering” and staining the outlying sections to match the old panels.

You can add a lot of pop without a lot of effort.  Like this gold & pearl switch-plate cover from Anthropologie.  It adds a little something interesting to the olive dining room wall.

Or the stripes on my daughter’s ceiling.  It takes less than a gallon of paint for this fun effect.

Personally, I like the flowers in my home to take your breath away.  Understated elegance is not for me.

My husband brought me home this gorgeous and intricate hand-painted tea set from a trip to Thailand.
I use it frequently, because I firmly believe that you should use your fancy things.

Fancy, glittery, and dramatic are not words that everyone strives for in regards to their home.  But if it appeals to you, go for it! Because Fancy is really a mindset, don’t you think?
Happy Fancy Friday everyone!

Fancy Friday Blissdom Style
Posted by ChrisAnn in Fancy Friday on Feb 11th, 2010 | Comment Bubble  17 Comments »

DSC_0033

One of my little projects at Blissdom was to try and capture a little of what was “fancy” for our “Fancy Friday” post each Friday.  Fancy Friday is where we capture a little bit of what we think is beautiful, artful, inspiring, or whimsical.  Basically, it’s just what has to catch our eye and make us happy.  With those thoughts in mind read on….and for those of you wondering- I’ve got a picture of -”THE DRESS”.

Our fearless leader, Alli, rocked her wicked cool red boots!

DSC_0084

This was a beautiful feathery black hair piece on Kim, of Twice Remembered.

IMG_0122

And here is the “tip” of the day and something that definitely could make Our Happy List!

DSC_0227

While I was chatting with the Kat, who is the Sassy Irish Lassie, I happened to catch a glimpse of her fingertips and notice that she was wearing the exact shade of blue nail polish I was wearing.  Thus began the photo-op!  OPI Russian Blue it’s SO the new black!

DSC_0211

While in line to hear Harry Connick Jr., I laid eyes on this bead-work!!

DSC_0093

Well, of course I was starstruck!!  I went in for the kill, ahem, I mean the photograph.  After a bumbling explanation of how I wanted to get the picture “in the good light” I read “THE DRESS” owner’s name tag!  It was Laura, The Hollywood Housewife.  This may be THE killer outfit of Blissdom.  It’s 3.1 Phillip Lim - I asked.

DSC_0091

Later, Laura could be seen accessorizing with the best thing ever, her baby girl, aka Pigtail.

DSC_0208

And here is the BLAH BLAH BLAHger, JJ  in peacock blue.  She was anything but blah!!  She was definitely wearing what we like to call “Party Peacock” style!

DSC_0206

This beautiful red scarf was on Kimm, from Reinvented.  It was made by Pretty Stinkin’ Green.  It was pretty stinkin’ cute!

DSC_0005

And, The Nester, from The Nesting Place,  wore amazing metal lace earrings.

DSC_0151

Sibi, from Pearls & Grace, wore a stand out red floral neck piece from Anthropologie.

DSC_0128

Here’s the close up!

DSC_0129

And, why not wear the princess dress?  This was the perfect gown, worn by Robin of Pensieve.Me enchanting!

DSC_0122

When I saw this gal, Dawn, from My Home Sweet Home, I stopped her right in her tracks wanting to know where she got her cute pin!

DSC_0034

The answer, some woman wearing a yellow scarf!  Well this was funny because I was on the lookout for a woman in a yellow scarf!  Kristin (at home in Maryland) had twittered me to look for Lindsey, from The Pleated Poppy, who we had linked to our last Fancy Friday, while I was at Blissdom!

DSC_0036

She was pretty easy to find in the crowd!  Fabric poppies were all the rage at Blissdom!

DSC_0037

This is Kim & Kris, from the DIY dish!  Kim is wearing yet another cute fabric flower!!  I bet you can find a way to make it on their new site!

DSC_0014

This beautiful necklace was on Carrie, of Bilingual in the Boonies.  I am sure you could find some fancy tees to go with something like this at her new shop, ChiChi & Flaco.

DSC_0010

And, finally another pair of shiny red boots on Leah, from Bookie Boo!

DSC_0069

That’s a little of what I saw fancy at Blissdom!!  Anyone else?

Mosaic Fancy Friday
Posted by Kristin in Fancy Friday on Jan 22nd, 2010 | Comment Bubble  8 Comments »

I’ve always been fascinated by mosaics.  So, this sunny afternoon, I grabbed my camera and toured my city!  I found…

garden mosaic

a meadow of flowers on the side of a cafe,

school mosaic

a school building, created by Banner Neighborhood Arts Club,

bird mosaic

a Bluebird of Happiness by Dick Brown,

school bus mosaic

even a school bus adorned with mirrors and cracked tiles,

city mosaic

a reflection of my city,

spider web

(not a mosaic) but a very cool stained glass window,

blue and turquoise up close

bottoms of bottles, china plates and mirrors covering the American Visionary Art Museum,

friendship mosaic

friendship,

avam mosaic

a starry night,

mosaic wall 2

an entire row house wall showing things that will help lead you to your dream,

wall mosaic

turquoise and cobalt blues,

dreams do come true

and a promise that with love, goals, determination, knowledge and will power, Dreams Do Come True!

Fancy Friday ~ The Tree
Posted by ChrisAnn in Celebrations, Fancy Friday on Dec 18th, 2009 | Comment Bubble  4 Comments »

2007_Dec_157

Picking out a tree is a very personal thing.  You really have to find the right one.  The tree that speaks to you….the tree that says I want to be in your life.

Nov08_B004

You need to round up the right posse to look for a tree.

Nov08_B025

You need to look hard at the tree from every angle….

Nov08_B006

More than one set of posse is even more helpful…and fun.

Nov08_B023

And, you need to bring along a professional tree analyzer.

Nov08_B007

And, a professional tree rapper.  This makes the tree feel special.

Nov08_B018

And, even if you don’t have a professional tree cutter…it will be OK.

Nov08_B012

Make sure you have a little elf to decorate it.

2008-dec005

How do you do your tree?
